Summary on Grant Application Form
Affine algebras play a central role in integrable systems of statistical mechanics and quantum field theory. The new aspect to be investigated is the recently discovered loop algebra symmetry in integrable systems associated with affine quantum groups at roots of unity. These symmetries shall be exploited to invoke representation theory techniques in the calculation of eigenspectra, form factors and correlation functions. In particular, the group theoretical meaning behind techniques in physics such as the algebraic Bethe ansatz or the bootstrap program shall be studied with the aim of developing powerful calculational schemes. At the same time this will promote further insight into the finite and infinite-dimensional representation theory of quantum affine algebras at roots of unity. The latter connects different approaches in integrable systems starting with Onsager's celebrated solution of the planar lsing model and Baxter's seminal work on the XYZ model.
