SummaryThis project aims to further our understanding of the scientifically challenging and industrially relevant problems of the effect of shear flow on polymer solutions and blends. Work to date has demonstrated how shear flow affects the phase boundary in complex but quantifiable ways. In this proposal we will predict scattering patterns in the one-phase region as a function of shear rate, composition, and theological characteristics. The predictions will be compared with the results of experiments being planned at Imperial College as part of grant GR/M03542; collaboration between the two groups is a key feature of this grant. We expect new experimental developments will follow from the theoretical predictions.
